Benefit Exhibition

8th May – 9th May 2010

Press Review

We celebrate our 25th anniversary with a benefit exhibition on the weekend of the 8th and 9th of May, and an accompanying programme offering an opportunity to celebrate but also providing a platform for the exchange of ideas and discussion. The auction of the exhibited works is taking place on 7 June 2010 as part of the Christie’s auction «Swiss Art» at Kunsthaus Zürich. This initiative is intended to make an important contribution towards the long-term consolidation of the future of Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen.

Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2010. This anniversary is an important event for an institution and its association which, since their beginnings, have believed in the central importance of contemporary art for society. Over the course of a quarter of a century the Kunst Halle has developed from a wandering community of interests of local producers of art into an internationally recognised exhibition venue in which over 400 artists have exhibited their works. The 25th anniversary will be celebrated in style and at the same time regarded as an opportunity to gain new impetus for the future.

The benefit exhibition features works by artists who have moulded the history of the Kunst Halle. All the works have been generously donated so as to make possible an auction for the benefit of the institution and the establishment of a foundation.

The following artists have provided works for the benefit exhibition and auction: Christoph Büchel, Mariana Castillo Deball, Armen Eloyan, Matias Faldbakken, Ryan Gander, Georg Gatsas, Patrick Graf, Loris Gréaud, Alex Hanimann, Georg Keller, Lang/Baumann, Lutz/Guggisberg, Jonathan Meese, Josef Felix Müller, Shahryar Nashat, Navid Nuur, Mai-Thu Perret, Pipilotti Rist, Kilian Rüthemann, Gedi Sibony, Roman Signer, Loredana Sperini, Oscar Tuazon, Andro Wekua and David Zink Yi.

The longer term purpose of the planned «Stiftung Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen» («Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen Foundation») is the financing of the exhibition programme; it is intended that especially more new works by young artists should be facilitated. As a second step it is conceivable to acquire these works with the aim of setting up a collection to preserve the traces of the Kunst Halle´s work in the region.
